Health programs

The health programs in Swedish herds are very far-reaching, with among other things so are the Swedish breed stock now gone in to the fifth year in the Para TB (Johne’s disease)-program (The test program are completed after five years).  Which imply that the herds are tested once every year. They are forbidden to have contact with animal that isn’t in the same phase of the program. It means also that we never can import live breed stock to Sweden from other countries if they don’t start the same program. Semen bulls must also been tested before we can import sperm from them. IBR tests is also needed  to make sure that the animals are free from it to.

We have also BVD program, tests are taken at least once a year, to stay in the program.

Sweden has during 10 years eradicated Leucosis, and is classed as a Leucosis free country.

When it comes to BSE (bovine sprongiform encephalopathy or “mad cow” disease) the cattle food industry in Sweden has taken away animal products from the forage in 1987. So we think that Swedish meats are free from risks for BSE. No case of BSE has been discovered in Sweden.

Additions of growth hormones are totally forbidden in the Swedish Beef production.
