Limousin in Sweden

2010 was 4 443 Limousin calves born in Sweden.

Swedish Limousine Association started 1970 when
the first Limousines arrived from France.
During the years also live import, embryo and
semen import has been made from Canada for
polled Limousin and from France for the origin
pedigree of our breed.

Today we have around 100 members in the
Swedish Limousin Association and 1459 cows in the Herd-Book.

Most of the Swedish breeders have small herds 10-30 cows and a work beside their farms.
Every year the 16 best young bulls in Sweden are tested at the test station Gunnarp,
Hörby in south Sweden. The best bull are taken out to AI sire and the rest how is good
enough are sold in auction. The Swedish semen bulls are to approximately 95% used
and tested on Diary cows. This makes our semen bulls interesting around the world
since it’s rather unique that the bulls are so highly tested on diary cows. Semen are
also selling good around the world for pedigree breeding and we have also sold among
others Swedish polled semen to France.

We have our own trade mark for selling Limousin meat in Sweden, LIMOUSINKÖTT.

The health situation in Sweden is very high, and cattle from Sweden is regarded free from
Bovine tuberculosis, Brucellosis, IBR, Enzootic bovine leucosis according to European
Commission Decision 2003/467/EC, 2004/558/EC and 2003/467/EC. We have since
1992 Para TB (Johne’s disease)-program also BVD and Salmonellas program that all
pedigree herds are connected to.

We have in our Association a large group of youngsters that are showing animals at
Shows in Sweden, they have their own Association and have every year training camps.

After-Tour Program in Sweden

Tuesday, July 10 - Welcome to Sweden!
Goes the bus over the Öresund Bridge to Sweden. Herd visit and dinner at
Oderup Limousin, Carina o Rolf Hansson who has 79 cows, www.oderup.se
After this we go to Åhus and visit to the Absolut Vodka, we also make a
guided tour of Åhus which dates back to the 1200s, as a major port and
commercial center. Åhus is best known for eel, tobacco and liquor,
until 1964 was grown tobacco in Åhus.
In the evening, the accommodation and dinner at the picturesque
Åhus Gästgifveri dating back to the 1737^th, www.ahusgastis.com

Wednesday, July 11
Visit and dinner at IKEA Museum. Herd visits to Gössarp o Kullen Limousin,
Martin, Nils, Håkan o Eva Bengtsson who has 30 cows, www.kullenlimousin.se

Then the trip goes back to Kastrup.
